The Pill and Depo Provera... Cant get pregnant. Did I screw my body up? ***This is very lengthly, but I really need someones help that has been through this kind of thing before, I dont have any insurance so a doctor is kinda last resort. Thanks to anyone that takes the time to try to help** When I first got with my husband (boyfriend since 2001) I was 15. After I turned 16 and was ready to move to the next step... I got on the daily birth control pill. I stayed on the pill for 5 months or so. Then I was on the depo provera shot for 2 years. Before the pill my periods lasted 3 days, or 4 at the most and could be timed to almost the day every month. Stayed the same while I was on the pill. When I started on the depo shot, of course my periods started getting weird. After the 2nd month I didnt have them at all. I had my cycle maybe one time a year and it lasted for 10 or 15 days or so, both times. Then I didnt renew my shot in February of 2004 and havent been on any birth control since. well for a year after I still didnt have my cycle at all. In february 2005 I started bleeding again, got a Unrinary Tract Infection (I can tolerate pain very well, but this kept me in bed and not eating for 2 days til i went to the hospital... it was HORRIBLE). After I staterd bleeding again it seemed like I didnt stop bleeding for more than a day for 10 months. If it stopped for a day, I was lucky. But, my husband and I would have sex and I would start bleeding again immediatly. Finally after that I got a 2 month break or no bleeding. Since then, I still havent had regular periods. a year or so ago I got to have sex with no bleeding for the first time in a very long time, I may bleed for a week or two, stop for a week, start again for 3 days, stop for a month, start for 1 day... you get the picture. VERY irregular and it stinks because my periods used to be so timed every month and only last for 3 or 4 days. Well, now I am almost 23 year old and want so badly to have kids with my husband. We havent used female birth control of any kind since I got off the shot in 2004. And the only time we have used condoms since then was if we didnt want to deal with the bad bloody mess. Anyway, we havent managed to get pregnant yet and I feel like this is all my fault. 1) I want to get on the pill again just long enough to regulate my periods, and wonder if that will even help, 2)And could I even get on the pill again with not knowing when I will begin my period? (3)Did I mess up my body forever by using the depo shot? (4) and finally... what should I do? get fertility tests? We dont have any kind of insurance, how much do they even cost for a male and/or female tests? Again, thanks for anyone that trys to help, i will be greatly appreciative for any help.

janis32886 replied: "It does sound like maybe your body is a little out of wack at the moment. I would suggest you visit your local Planned Parenthood. A lot of thier services are free or at a reduced cost based on your income. They can do a pap smear and make sure that is all normal, as well as prescribe birth control and give you advice on how to take it. I believe you can take it even when you don't have your period. I had an IUD inserted and had it there for 1 1/2 month and I bled like a period the entire time. I went to an ER when I couldn't stand it anymore and the cramps were so bad. They gave me Plan B birth control and had me go to Planned Parenthood to get more medication. I did not have a regular period during that time so they just had me start it right then. So I think that would be the same for you. As for fertility tests, all I know is that they are expensive."

Arron & me replied: "Hun.... Please see your G.P, Nurse or Dr. The more you want something badly the more you have to wait. The stress of all that you have described will not help while ttc. I was on the depo prova back in 1996/7. I came off it in Nov 1997 age 20. 4 months later I was pregnant. I have since been on the depo prova and bled for 2 months constant and had 44 anti bleed tablets and still bled. I had the coil in in 2006 and had it taken out in August of this year. Ive had normal periods since and Novembers period was 4 days late. Im ttc also and Im grateful for the 2 healthy children I have. I will try for 12 months and see my G.P if I haven't conceived by August 2009. Im also trying to loose 3 stone as this doesn't help plus give up drinking. I will ask my G.P for tests for both of us in August if Im not pregnant. How do you know its not your boyfriend who has a problem and not you? I know its difficult but while its xmas and stressful why not put it to the back of your mind? Ask your boyfriend to get checked out as well as you. Look at your lifestyle also. I have. Read the book taking charge of your fertility, I did after it was recommended on here. There are alternative treatments like reflexology that can help with ttc. Get your body in sync... Im sure you will be fine. Baby dust."

EmLa replied: "Um, dear you DEFINITELY need to see an OB-GYN. Something is wrong. PLEASE see a doctor!!! For instance, you may have fibroids since you have so much irregular bleeding, which is known as dysmennorhea. I don't think the provera caused this, but I am not a doctor so I don't know.... You don't mention severe pain, but if that's the case you might have something like endometriosis, but again, probably not if you don't have pain. Go buy an insurance policy NOW because you are going to need it if you need fertility tests or uterine surgery or something. Blue cross blue shield is probably one of the best. At your age, it might not be terribly expensive. If you buy the insurance BEFORE getting diagnosed with any big problem it will be covered. If you wait until after you get some diagnosis, such as something that might need surgery, many insurers won't cover you. I truly hope to god you saw a doctor when you bled every day for 10 months, because honey thats a sign that somethign is medically wrong. Get your iron levels checked too because you could be anemic from all the bleeding!!!"

vm replied: "I know it will be expensive, but you need to apply for insurance and see a doctor ASAP. Go to the nearest Planned Parenthood and hopefully they can help. I was on the Depo Shot for over 3 years, and after I discontinued my periods did not re-start, so I went back on the pill for 2 years. The good thing about that was that it was a tri-phasic which re-started my body's hormones. Then, when I went off the pill, it took about 9 months for ovulation to re-start. I am now 11 weeks pregnant, with no problems (wasn't really trying). And, I'm 25, so I'm a bit older than you... Your body will be fine, just go back on the pill to re-stabilize and also please watch your diet. Once I improved my diet to be primarily organic and vegetarian, it helped a lot of my ovarian issues and I have no problems now whatsoever. Good luck!"

Christy replied: "all i know is i went 13 months after the depo shot without having my period..personally i wouldnt get on any bcp i would let my body return to normal on its own..and no u havent messed up ur body forever its just really confused..i would wait a while i would say maybe make an appointment with ur doctor ask for their advice..this is just my personal experience.."

Should i stop having the depo-provera injection? I had my very first injection at the beginning of july. I suffer with depression, but a little underweight. Since being on the injection, i've lost interest in my boyfriend, he says i'm a bitch and exaggerate. sometimes i think its because i lack confidence and i think i'm ugly. I'm even more nervous than usual, don't like going out socialising cus i think i'm boring and i on't have anything to say. I have a 6month old daughter she is gorgeous but i think i'm a crap mother. I get tired and very moody maybe i need psychiatric help? You can view my picture and see hoe ugly i am. At the end of the day everyone hates redheads and pale skin.Maybe i should leave my boyfriend and daughter, they would be better off without me. I don't wnat my daughter to be like me boring, can't do anything I can't drive, i can't swim tried both but i panic. I'm just useless at everything. I careless..... by the way i'm already tsking anti-depressants. i'm taking prozac. i was doing well, but i think people hate me, cus i'm always negative. my boyfriend always wants to split up with me. i have no family and friends nearby. tried counselling, didn't work. made me worse!

Erin S replied: "sounds like you are depressed there... go see your doc. there are things that can help you. wether the depo shot is causing it or not i dont know, but i do know that you need to get your mind back where it should be."

Nita replied: "I don't think it's your depo. I think it you should see your dr to put you on anti depressants."

Kar-bear replied: "Wow hun you def need to talk to somebody about this, and leaving your child and boyfriend is not the answer. You need a new outlook in life, there must be a reason why you seem so negative and giving up easily without even trying. Talk to someone close, seek an advisor near your home, hospital, school or work They always help with things like that, sometimes even free of charge. You can gain control of your life back the way you want and need to but you need to talk to somebody that can help."

Gem =) replied: "injections and pills can make you more depressed the best thing for people suffering from depression is the IUD cervical cap which is fitted and doesent affect you like the injection ask your doctor about this.. No dont leave your boyfriend and daughter they need you and why not learn something new alone or with your boyfriend and daughter it doesent have to be swimming lots of people cannot swim or drive and your not alone! i also suffer with depression and was extremely bad while i was on the pill but came off it for my own sake and feel a lot better now good luck xxx"

poppy replied: "i dunno, but i just went on the progesterone only pill (depo is also progesterone) and i am going NUTS on it, im being a flaming irritable b1tch, forget about sex, (ie birth control) im more likely to bite someone's head off, im bleeding all over the place, my boobs are sore & im basically freaking on it. i dont know what to do. this is the 3rd day ive taken it & im thinking of giving up. if u werent a flaming b1tch before i would think about stopping depo. saying that ive taken 3 days and havent decided to stop. maybe i should. family planning places are no help either they say "everyone is different" blah blah. anyhoo, good luck, i sympathise."

Cynthia replied: "Sounds more like you need to see your doctor and possibly get on an anti depressant and/or mood stabalier. First of all let me say im at the same exact point right now. I know how you feel! I totally sympathize for you. You have to be a wonderful person. Everyone is different and everyone is their own personal being. What you dont find attractive someone else does. Your boyfriend is probably just stressed out and doesnt know how to deal with you. Mine was. He called me a bitch too. I have a 8 month old little boy. I have thought about leaving, I dont want him to be like I have been either. I know you feel like you are worthless and nobody needs you or cares about you, but more people do than you think. Your baby needs you, you are her mother and without you she would be devistated. I know that the sound of anit-depressants is quite annoying and almost even more depressing in itself, but really if it helps you have nothing to loose. I was pretty much suicidal if It wernet for my son I probably would have been. Now im taking anti depressants and im going to go see a psychiatrist. Just try to help yourself. You will feel much much better. You are a lovely girl. I dont think that the injection has anything to do with it but, it could. Birth controls carry a wide variety of hormones. I would talk to your doctor about switching. I had a terrible problem with mine. I went flippin crazy!!! So now I have an IUD without any hormones and it works really well for me. I hope you get some help and I really hope you feel better. Just try to stay optimistic and realize that you are different than anyone else in this world, take pride on that because you dont want to be a plain jane. Some people dont like swimming or driving. Just take very small steps at a time. Perhaps a counceler would help you too. I hope you get to feeling better!!! :) If you need someone to talk to my email is feel free to ask me any questions you want. I do not judge at all, and I feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinions about things. C. Adams, RN :) If you are already taking anti depressants maybe you should try a different type or talk to your doctor about maybe upping the dosage. A mood stabalizer is also a good thing to have as well. Try talking things over with your boyfriend see what the source of the problem is and maybe you can get to the bottom of it."

studoom replied: "I came off the depo and became a happy person. I didn't know that I cold wake up in the morning and look forward to the day, but 9 years of pill/depo and all the hormones made me view the world in a way i now realise wasn't very healthy (although I have friends who are great on them so I guess it is just the way your body/mind reacts). Needless to say if you have just had a baby you will still be full of hormones and you need to make sure you use a reliable form of contraception if you come off the depo (I went for a non hormonal coil). I think it sounds like you really do need to talk to a doctor about it. I have a 10 month old and while there are days when you feel it is all too much there should also be days when you feel like you are doing OK. Just remember it is not you and there is help and people who would be happy to help you through this bit. This is clearly just my experience but good luck, I wish you the best!"

eat my try replied: "It could well be the hormones, I react very badly to them and become moody and nasty. I would come off it and see how you feel. you can always try other methods and see if they have any effect. I finally get the coil as it has very little hormones on it and is reliable. One other thing to remember is that quite often, antidepressants often make the depression worse for the first two to three weeks, so you might want to carry on regardless for a couple of weeks and see if you meds work for your mood. I would come off the depo, I've never heard a good thing about it!"

dilly replied: "dont think the problem is with the depo, i think you have some other problems you need to sort out. i would keep having the jab for now at least you wont add any more children to your mixed up feelings. after watching my sis go through post natal depression i think you need some help for that and a big confidence boost at the same time. you are what you are learn to love yourself."

Samurai replied: "Depo ruined my life for 9 months. I am not the only one. Check out"
